Margaret's father was Sidney Yardley Benbow and her mother was Zillah Irene Kedzlie.  Her paternal grandparents were Norman John Benbow and Anna Maria Yardley; her maternal grandparents were William Arthur Kedzlie and Rachael. She had two brothers and four sisters, named Mervyn Yardley, William Norman, Irene, Jacqueline, Rachael Joyce and Phyllis.
