Francis was born on May 4th, 1884 in Beaconsfield, Tas.1   Francis' father was William BURGESS and his mother was Sarah Jane NASH.  His paternal grandparents were Richard BURGESS and Johannah SAUNDERS. He had eight sisters named Martha, Louisa Laura, Jane Elizabeth Maria, Isabella Blanche, Alice Mary, Selina (Tottie), Maude and Mabel Isabelle.  He was the youngest of the nine children. He had seven half-brothers and two half-sisters, named William, David, Edward, Frederick, George Henry, Alfred Albert, Walter, Mary Ann and Eliza.  He died in New Zealand.1
