John was born on May 15th, 1857 in Dalry,  Ayrshire, Scotland.1   John's father was Daniel BLUE and his mother was Mary TOWNSEND. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Duguld, Colin, Donald\Daniel, James, Margaret, Mary, Christina and Elizabeth Wilson McLeod.  He was the fourth oldest of the nine children.
